The reason your search on the Ukrainian/Russian phonebook website did not find Romanyk was because you need to enter the name using Ukrainian letters. So Romanyk would be Ромаиік
You can quickly learn the alphabet and many common words with an inexpensive language manual
I am finding it impossible to find my mother’s sister, Ann Miller. You would think there would be plenty in the phonebook directories, etc. The problem is that there are too many! How can I narrow down the thousands of Ann Miller’s to just those that are 72 years old?

excellent launching point for your genealogical research
I’m just getting started with my Genealogical research, and after feeling a bit overwhelmed with the possibilities, I bought a couple of books to help me develop a “roadmap.”
Given the conciseness of this text and the beautiful graphic design and layout, I was expecting this to be shorter on substance than my other (much lengthier) book, “How to Do Everything with Your Genealogy.” However, the old family photographs and pictures of census records and immigration documents are inspiring, while the mini-case studies help put the descriptive text in context. The eight concise chapters seem to cover the essential range of topics, including interviewing and collection techniques, archiving, creating family trees, using the internet as a tool, and planning a genealogy research trip. Family history research is not rocket science, and while much of what is described is common sense, this book focuses on pointing out key internet and library resources and recommending methods for interviewing as well as making use of the experience of naturally helpful librarians and archivists.
I was particularly impressed by the clarity and relevance of the chapter on internet searches, which assumes no previous background and probably well accommodates even the largely senior demographic of family historians. Relevant sub-topics include a conceptual overview of how email works, basic etiquette, and pointers to helpful online resources. Appropriately, computer technology is a dominant theme throughout the book, and the author makes particular note that with modern technology, genealogical research is a whole lot less tedious than it used to be. One example of a good idea I hadn’t thought of, is bringing a digital camera on research trips to take snapshots of archival documents.
I’m sure I’ll come back to this book as a “reference” during various stages of my search, but that didn’t stop me from reading this from cover to cover.

I was researching my family name and came across a few different
books that Frank Romanick wrote. I decided to send him a letter……my uncle
married a woman named Romanick. I didn’t know if there
was a relationship between the names. Well Frank and I spoke on the phone and
the woman was his sister. He sent me the book to enjoy the Romanick’s
Family Tree and hopes to bring me closer to the families. Frank is in his late 80’s
and lives in Colorado.
Frank did a mass mailing:
905 copies of questionnaires sent to families living in USA
174 returned mailings because families living in USA did not leave any forwarding
address or the time expired for forwarding to the new address.
Out of 731 families in United States, only 55 families provided their family histories
for this Book Three.
70 copies of questionaire sent to families living in Canada.
19 returned mailing because families living in Canada did not leave any forwarding
address or the time expired for forwarding to the new address.
Out of 51 families in Canada, only 9 families provided their family historeis for this
Book Three.

I came across your URL. Interesting how you have listed all the spellings of names that sound like Romanec in English. However, Romanec if translated from Ukrainian should actually be spelled Romanetz in English as the letter “c” in Ukrainian is pronounced “tz” in English. How this affects any genealogical researches I don’t know, but I thought I’d bring it to your attention on the off chance you did were not aware of this.
I would be interested to see what sort of genealogy you have so far. As far as I know my father came to Canada in 1951 and no one else in his family that he ever knew of ever set foot outside of Ukraine or Poland.
